Top 5 Nature Moments of 2016

Due to internet problems, this post had to wait until today. Enjoy!

5. Ebony Jewelwings at Carden Alvar -- July 24th

It was pretty cool to be literally surrounded by these dashing damselflies.

4. Bonaparte's Gulls at Blenheim Sewage Lagoons -- October 28th

Bonies are one of my favourite gulls (GBBG comes in a close second), and to have hundreds of them flying quite close to you is quite neat. Photo ops were endless.

3. Piping Plovers in Darlington Provincial Park -- July 24th

Darlington hosted the first successful nest on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario in over 80 years. It was fun to watch the plovers run back and forth across the beach.

2. Sunday Morning at the Bruce -- May 22nd

Although not a truly a fallout, that morning the birds were everywhere! I scored a number of lifers as well including Lincoln's Sparrow and a Virginia Rail during breakfast. eBird list here.

1. Moose in Algonquin Park -- September 18th

I have been searching for Moose before I was birding. To finally lay my eyes on this majestic animal was definitely a highlight from 2016.
